Wollstonecraft is best known for A Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792), in which she argues that women are not naturally inferior to men, but appear to be only because they lack education. She suggests that both men and women should be treated as rational beings and imagines a social order founded on reason. Mary Wollstonecraft's exploration -- cut short by her death -- of the integration of sense and reason, imagination and thought -- looks toward 19th century thought, and was part of the movement from Enlightenment to Romanticism. Wollstonecraft returned to London to work again for Johnson and joined an influential radical group, which gathered at his home and included William Godwin, Thomas Paine, Thomas Holcroft, William Blake, and, after 1793, William Wordsworth.

Mary Wollstonecraft (1759-97) was born in Spitalfields in 1759. Her father uprooted the family on a number of occasions and during her formative years Mary Wollstonecraft was to find herself in Epping, Barking, Beverley in Yorkshire, back to East London in Hoxton and then out again to Wales.

Mary Wollstonecraft was an English writer who advocated for women's equality. Her book 'A Vindication of the Rights of Woman' pressed for educational reforms. Enlightenment Ideas about Men & Women: Rousseau vs Wollstonecraft Topic Introduction: The Enlightenment is the name given both to an age (mostly the 18th century in Western Europe and somewhat in its colonies) and its beliefs and ideas.
